Traveling with Korea Rail (KR) Pass

12:53

Ello everybody (once again!)

I'm on fire in updating my blogposts, am I? Hahaha. Anyways, it's Monday today which means a brand new week of #wowkoreasupporters mission again! This week's mission is to introduce a super money saver tip for foreigners traveling in South Korea. I am sure many of you would have heard of JR pass for Japan or Euro Pass for European countries. And yes, Korea ain't losing out either because they have their very own Korea Rail Pass, aka KR Pass! :)

This is something I totally regret not finding out earlier when my sister just came to visit me. I hope she does't screw me when she reads this post, hahah. If you are reading this sis, I am so sorry!! *cries* Nonetheless, KR Pass is a train pass that allows foreigners visiting or residing in Korea to have unlimited train rides on KORAIL trains up to ten days (depending on the kind of pass you chose). NO LIMITS on the number of times you travel within the day pass period you chose, and NO LIMITS on travel area! How awesome is that!

Let me just jump straight into how you can go about reserving your KR Pass!

Step 1
Go to http://www.letskorail.com/ebizbf/EbizBfIndex_eng.do

Step 2
You would be brought into this page and key in the information as follows:

Step 3
And this important notice will pop up. Take note and click "OK"

Step 4
You will then be directed to this page as follows. REMEMBER your exchange ticket number. It is very important for you to confirm or cancel your reservation!

Scroll down and you can confirm your personal information. After doing so, click PAYMENT.

Step 4
Fill in your credit card number and details for the payment information. Click PAYMENT after.

Alternatively if you are a foreigner residing in Korea like me (and has a Korean credit card), you may choose the "Korea Issued" option and note the following:

Key in first two digits of your Korean Credit Card PIN number and last 7 digits of your ARC Registration number.

You should be done with your payment after you keyed in all that information. Because I am NOT going anywhere for the time being and this is merely a step-by-step guide. I will be showing you how you can cancel your reservation.

First, go to "MY RESERVATION" on the left hand side and click it. You will be directed to the following screen. Key in your e-mail and the exchange ticket number which I mentioned before.

After doing so, click inquiry and you will be directed to this page. Click "CANCEL" at the bottom.

Viola! Your cancellation is complete :)

  • Foreigners staying in Korea for six months or more are ineligible for the pass. (Such foreigners may use the Happy Rail Pass.)

After reservation, you should print/save the pdf version of e-ticket and exchange for a KR Pass at any KTX counters (i.e. Seoul Station)

From my understanding, you CANNOT directly use the e-ticket. Also, you have to tell the person at the KTX counter your desired destination, so as to reserve the seats. You are not allowed to reserve seats online or through the app. Therefore, I highly recommend you to be at the station in advance :)

I hope this step-by-step guide is useful to you guys who are planning for a travel around Korea! Do leave a comment down below if you have any questions on Korea. Alternatively, you may e-mail me @ irenestar92@gmail.com and I would try my best to reply to all of your doubts ^^

Till then,
